The Thracian Wine Tour (+Plovdiv)

I'll pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 AM and we'll begin today's wine experience!
Within about 2 hours of driving along the highway we will reach the second largest city in Bulgaria – Plovdiv, one of the oldest centers of European civilization – a contemporary of Troy and Mycenae. The Thracians founded the settlement around 1200 BC. In 342 BC Philip of Macedon conquered Thrace and Eumolpia was renamed Philippopolis in his honor. Currently, Plovdiv is an important cultural center with a number of landmarks from Roman antiquity and the Ottoman Empire, numerous Orthodox churches, museums, galleries, boutiques, clubs, cafes and restaurants. Plovdiv was ranked 6th in the list of “Lonely Planet” with the hottest destinations in the world to visit in 2015! Our lunch break will be in an exclusive restaurant, known for its exquisite dishes, or in a cozy wine bar, owned by a local family winery, where the dishes will be specially paired with their own wines!
After lunch we will visit the Villa Justina winery, located on the outskirts of the Rhodope Mountains, in the small village of Ustina. This is a prominent and fast-growing winery that has been cultivating vineyards since 2008. Villa Justina became popular with its red masterpiece “Monogram” Mavrud and Rubin, an elegant blend of these two local varieties. The energy and enthusiasm of the people working at Villa Justina ensure a captivating and memorable experience. Our hosts will introduce you to the technological stages of winemaking and together we will walk around the complex (in favorable weather conditions and among the vineyards with an incredible view of the Rhodope Mountains). Of course, we will also taste wine – 5 wines, including the premium brands, paired with local delicacies.
We expect to return you to the hotel by 7:00 PM.
