Hotel pickup at 8:30 AM and we will head south for today's wine and culinary experience!
First we visit the village of Boboshevo on the Struma River, just 75 km from Sofia. The architecture and frescoes in the monastery church of St. Dimitar are among the best preserved works of art of medieval Bulgarian Orthodoxy. A hidden treasure that we will visit and enjoy the majestic views of the highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula - Rila.
Our next destination is arguably the most valuable cultural and historical site in Bulgaria – the Rila Monastery (UNESCO). We will enter the monastery, visit the church, and I will tell you details of the multifaceted and turbulent history of this holy place, which began more than 1000 years ago!
Then it's time for a traditional lunch in a cozy family restaurant, amidst the picturesque nature of Rila. We will try some traditional specialties (trout is the main one here), we will talk about Bulgaria on topics that interest you from the perspective of a local. This is followed by a transfer of about 20-25 minutes for a tasting at a winery in the area, on the way to Sofia, where we will enjoy selected wines and take a walk around the winery itself.
We expect to return you to the hotel by 7:00 PM.
